I named this newsletter No Blueprint because there is NO blueprint in the sports world. There are 500 different ways to the top and I look forward to sharing some of those with you. Thanks for reading!

One tip when traveling: Always check the uber. Before you get out take a second to look around. Losing your wallet or passport can ruin your trip.

III

Networking tip: When traveling internationally don’t be afraid to connect with new coaches. Sit and pick their brain. The older ones may be in positions you want to be in eventually.

1 Idea for you

My first FIBA event

I went to Mexico for my first FIBA event and it was one of the best experiences I’ve had in a long time. Below are ten things that I noticed.

10 things that stood out (FIBA Mexico):

  1. The college coaches. Speaking to the national team coaches this was a larger turnout than expect.

  2. The environment. Great crowds especially when Mexico played they brought their band and everything.

  3. The basketball. This was my first FIBA event and didn’t know what to expect.

  4. The pride. It was awesome to see the fans going nuts for their team. A few guys even took their shirts off after a game winner lol.

  5. The agents. Not a ton but still a few. It only takes one relationship to change your life.

  6. The match ups. You get to watch these kids in AAU/HS but it’s good to see how they respond in different environments like this.

  7. The growth.  As the overseas market continues to explode these events will get bigger and bigger in our game.

  8. The work will always reward you. Some of the top assistant coaches were in the building. Not everyone wants to fly all around but the more you’re out and work the more “luck” comes your way.

  9. The break in games. The games are played in two sessions so you get a break in play.

  10. The area. Leon Mexico has some good food, the tacos hit the spot. Get out and try new things.
