I named this newsletter No Blueprint because there are many ways to the top and I look forward to sharing some of those with you. Thanks for reading!

One way to standout: Time equals love. Spend time with your players and show them that you care.
III
Networking tip: If you’re watching hoops at night take some notes on other teams. If you like what someone is doing shoot them an email. You’d be shocked at how many people respond.

“TIME EQUALS LOVE.”

In Season NIL: Retention Dinners
We all play road games around the country. Some of these games are located in cities that are filled with alums. If you’re proactive you can set dinners in these cities with alums to raise money.
Here is how you build it:
Have your development team identify 10-20 people who would be open to giving. Make the goal of the dinner known.
Ask your head coach to reach out to those 10-20 people with a 5 minute call officially inviting and thanking them for the support.
Let’s say 15 people come to the dinner. During the night explain why you need NIL to RETAIN guys. “If you want these kids to stay and graduate with the degree you love we need NIL to keep them here.”
Have one of the players stop by and speak on how they love the school and what it means to them.
At the end of the dinner open it up to questions. Make people feel part of the process. Then as you wrap up have a CTA (Call to action). “I hope you enjoyed what you heard tonight and see the vision of keeping our guys home. To donate please see _____ who is in charge of our development.”
If you get 15 people to donate $1,000 thats $15k in a night. Do this for 3 of your biggest road games $15k x 3 = $45,000. If you have donors with bigger capacity target more.
Invite them to shoot around the next day. Tell them to bring their family. Make them feel apart of what you’re asking them to invest in.

I recently sat down with VCU DOBO Luke St. Lifer. Luke has gone up and down from multiple levels and landed in a great spot. His journey is a classic example of betting on yourself.
As always thank you for reading
