Networking tip: Evaluate the connections you make in the off season and then go see the ones you feel you have the best relationships with. Nothing will replace face to face meetings.

1 Idea for you

The job hunt is in full swing and it’s not easy.

Here are 4 steps you can use to attack it:

  1. See who your staff or peers have worked with before. Emailing blindly can only get you so far. If you have a real connection to the situation you will have a better chance to get a call.

  2. If you go to your mentors and say “can you help me find a job” that means they have to go find the opening. Some may do that but most have a lot going on. They have families, a boss, trying to retain a roster, recruit 40 kids in the portal, etc. So taking time out to find you an opening may be hard.

  3. Whereas if you find a lead and say “hey coach I have a lead on a job at Smith College. I saw you worked with one of the assistant coaches there, can you call?” Now all your mentor has to do is make a phone call. You took the work out of it.

  4. Always try to do the heavy lifting so you can make it easy on your connections to help.
